In the railway industry we talk about track EST. EST stands for Electrical, Signal and Telecom systems. Intersignal works within all three areas, but not track, which simply put is the rails. Intersignal naturally takes on individual and inter-disciplinary projects within electrical, signal and telecom systems. We are also competent in technical drafting, read more below.
Signal technology
Signal technology is Intersignal’s principal area, the one upon which the entire company was founded. Even though many of the projects the company runs incorporate electrical, signal and telecom systems, purely signal projects are the most common. Intersignal is the undisputed leader in the analysis, design and safety review of large signal projects across Sweden, thanks to our highly competent personnel. We are also able to take on the task of project assessor.
Electrical technology
Intersignal has been very active in electrical technology design and implementation since 2003. Railway electrical technology is a rather narrow discipline in which Intersignal has broad expertise.
The projects have varied greatly, but design of catenary system in the high voltage area has predominated, in which field Intersignal participates in everything from the design, review and development in projects.
Intersignal also works with project planning and review within auxiliary power and low voltage.
Telecom technology
The Swedish Rail Administration's own fixed and mobile telecom networks have an important safety function within the infrastructure built up around the rail network. The telecom networks allow direct contact with trains and guarantee connection even in the longest of tunnels. Intersignal works closely with the network owner in everything from studies and investigations to construction and system documentation. And of course, Intersignal takes care of the overall project management of entire telecom technology projects.
Project management
Our project managers are knowledgeable and have great experience in working with different project models, and Intersignal has managed a large number of projects over the years. We also work with project management such as consultancy assignments. The majority of our project managers are certified by PMI and our goal is for all of our project managers to achieve this.
In our own projects we naturally have responsibility for project administration including documentation management.
A significant part of the administration of signal projects concerns the management of original documents as several changes may be in progress simultaneously while original drawings are out on loan to other consultancy companies, and where all changes must be coordinated to ensure that the proper support documentation is available for a project and that the correct changes are sent out as construction documents.
Drafting
Based on documentation from the CAD project manager, our experienced staff either enter changes into the existing digital original, or draft a completely new original. In situations where smaller changes must be made to transparencies or older, non-digital originals, our draftsmen remain highly skilled at pen-and-ink drafting.
